best of 2005

There aren't many days left in 2005 and it seemed to me it was time for the list. This isn't the sort of thing you can procrastinate on ... so I devoted many hours of thinking to this today and arrived at my conclusions (the studying for finals can go on hold for a bit, it's not like I haven't started or anything).
